Funeral services were held March 24 at the Salt Creek Indian Baptist Church in Wetumka for Richard Simpson. Rev. George Harjocee and Rev. Eugene Withlow officiated at the service.
Mr. Simpson was born Jan. 25 1952 in Tahlequah to Euna and Susie (Scott) Simpson and died March 21 in Oklahoma City at the age of 54.
He was raised in Yeager where he attended school. After school he entered into the United States Army serving in Vietnam. Following his discharge he attended Seminole Junior College where he received an associate degree. He later attended East Central University where he received a degree in Human Resources and Social Work. Mr.. Simpson was employed by the Creek Nation Family services as a social worker specializing as a family treatment specialist. He previously worked with Creek and Chickasaw tribes in their housing programs.
He was a member and chairman of the Alabama Tribal Town governing committees and the economic development board.
Mr. Simpson enjoyed tribe; activities and was a member of the First Indian Baptist in Holdenville where he taught Sunday school. He was associated wit the Salt Creek Baptist Church. His hobbies included golf, softball, and spending time with his children. He also enjoyed talking to others and assisting them in whatever problems they may have. He was a major OU fan and also enjoyed watching the Yankees play baseball.
Preceding him in death was father, a brother and sister.
Survivors include his wife Lucinda, of the home, five children: Aaron Simpson and wife Marian of Hawaii: Isaac Simpson and wife Shawnavyn of Holdenville and Jacob, Joshua and Kyra Simpson of the home: a granddaughter, Gabriella Nicole Simpson: His mother, Susie Simpson of Holdenville: a brother Edward Simpson, Oklahoma City” Mother-in-law Wynema Fish Wetumka: brother-in-law: Anthony Fish and wife, Karen, Sam, Marcus and Clifford Fish: sister-in law Katherine Farde, Ramona Voisine and Renetta Fish; and several aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.
Interment was in the Salt Creek Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
