James "John" Cook

Funeral services for James “John” Cook were held Nov. 8 at the Salt Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating.

Mr. Cook was born Feb 10, 1931 in Wetumka to Reuben Cook and the Mary Scout and died Nov 4.

He attended Euchee Mission Boarding School . At the age of 17, he joined the United States Military, serving 10 years in the U.S. Army Airborne Battalion and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served another two years. He loved to sit outside and visit with family and friends. He was also known as “Sonny” by his sister Lorene. Many knew him as “Baby Lonny”, but most knew him as “John”.

He is survived by one other brother Virgil Cook of Pawnee, one sister Lorene Culley of Wetumka, one son Michael Cook of Okemah, two daughters Kristen Cook of Holdenville and Shelly Cook of Glenpool, 15 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben Cook, and Mary Scott; one daughter, Laura Buffalohead; one great grandson, Dylan Fixico; two brothers, Joe Coachman and Charlie Coachman, and two sisters, Lula Dunson and Beatrice Cornett.

Pallbearers were Frank Coachman, Farron Culley, Arron Culley, Dennis Culley, George Scott, Mark Scott, and Allen Scott.

Interment followed services in the Salt Creek Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home
