Harry Virgil Wallace

Burial for Harry Virgil Wallace, 65, Atwood, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Atwood Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Allen United Methodist Church, Rev. John Marks and Mr. Daryl Buck will officiate. Family and friends may call at the Allen Chapel from 4:00 p.m. Sunday until 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Mr. Wallace died Friday, April 4, 2008 at a Holdenville nursing home. He was born May 26, 1942 at Troy, Oklahoma to Virgil Homer “Dick” and Ruby Alma Combs Wallace. He attended Troy Elementary School, Mill Creek High School and graduated from Allen High School in 1960. He graduated from East Central University in 1963 majoring in math and science and earned a Master of Science degree from Purdue University in 1966.

He married Mary Helen Smith on March 4, 1966 in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Wallace worked seven years as a civilian with the Air Force Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He then returned to the Allen-Atwood area where he taught math and science for 27 years in the Allen School District. He was also a farmer and rancher, raising peanuts and cattle. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves for six years.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Helen Wallace, of the home; four children, Cynthia Jo Wallace Buck and husband Daryl, Tahlequah, Richard Vincent Wallace and wife Jennifer, Allen, Charles Sheldon Wallace and wife Angela, Atwood, and Susan Maleah Wallace and fiancé, Carl Ballenger, Edmond; eleven grandchildren: Logan and Kelsey Buck, Tonya Bennett, Preston, Samuel, and Olivia Wallace, Blake, Dylan, and Chandler Wallace, and Faith and Hope Armstrong; one sister, Diane Scott, Waco, TX; and twin brothers, Stephen Don Wallace and wife Karla, Wichita Falls, TX, and Stewart Jon Wallace and wife Vicki, Edmond; and four nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Allen Fire Department, 100 N. Memphis, Allen, OK 74825, or the Atwood Fire Department, Atwood, OK 74827.
