Reverend Junior J. Garrett, 83, of Stigler, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. John Hospital in Tulsa.He
was born April 14, 1934 at McCurtain, Oklahoma to Andrew Jackson
and Minnie (McMahan) Garrett. He grew up in the Rocky Ridge
Community. He attended Stigler Schools and graduated with the
Class of 1951. Junior continued his education at OSU. He married
Marie Treadway on September 5, 1951 at Ozark, Arkansas and made
their home on Beaver Mountain. He began working for the Army
Ammunition Plant in McAlester and later at the Lexington Prison
as a Welding Instructor. He taught welding at Kiamichi Vo-Tech
at Poteau and Stigler, as well as Stigler Public Schools. Junior
was a minister starting in 1969 and preached at many Baptist
Churches until retirement.
Junior was truly a man of God. He loved to preach and his
proudest moments were when he helped bring lost souls to the
Lord. He was a mentor to many, not only as a pastor, and a
teacher, but also as a family man. He loved his family and
always had stories to share with his family and friends.
He loved camping and yard sales. He was a member of Freedom
Baptist Church.
Junior is survived his two daughters, Judy Bray and husband Mike
of Kinta, Vicky Harrell and Ronnie Holden of Beaver Mountain;
his son, Mike Garrett of Beaver Mountain; five grandchildren,
Jerry Bray and wife Tammy, Bobby Bray and wife Karie, Justin
Bray, April Burch and husband Kyle, Joe Wesley Garrett Harrell;
thirteen great grandchildren, Kearstin, Kaden, Jerren and wife
Andrea, Keeten, TyAnn, Sandra, Kelsie, Katelyn, Noah, Kaizlei,
Emma, Gracie, Jayden; five great-great grandchildren, Rylan,
Avery, Kolby, Randy, Landon.
Junior is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson &
Minnie Garrett; his wife, Marie Garrett.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11,
2017 at Whitefield Baptist Church with Reverend Don Duvall
officiating. Eulogist: Randall Pearce. Pallbearers include Billy
Apple, Garrett Apple, Billy Tom Bryce, Tommy Joe Bryce, Kirby
Nolen, Kevin Hendrix. Honorary Pallbearers include Steve Burch,
Stacy Burch.
Burial will follow immediately to Whitefield Cemetery under the
direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
