Woodward, Okla. - Rufus A. "Shorty" Caldwell III, 70 year old Laverne resident, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 in Enid. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church of Laverne with his son, Pastor Lee Stinson officiating. Interment will be in the Laverne Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
Rufus Arthur Caldwell III was born on October 26, 1940 in Cuero, Texas to Rufus Arthur and Roberta Martha (Sherod) Caldwell. Shorty was reared in the Big Lake, Texas area and graduated from Reagan County High School in 1959. He moved to Woodward in 1966 working for GSI and and later Dresser Atlas. Shorty was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ima Jean Stinson on September 25, 1969 in Woodward, Oklahoma. The family traveled all over the United States, Mexico and Canada because of Shorty's work in the oilfield. Shorty worked his way up to an Engineer at Dresser Atlas and continued working there until retiring in 1989 due to an injury. After his retirement he remodeled homes.
Shorty was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved being with family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Lee Oran Stinson and wife Jeanne of Woodward, Jalonda Stinson Knight and husband Joel of Norman, Jack James "Doc" Stinson Jr. and wife Louise of Woodward, Gary W. Stinson of Laverne; 12 grandchildren, Emma Lee Wilson and husband Joe, Sarah K. Singhisen and husband Eric, Leesa R. Stinson, Vicki J. Barton and husband Chad, Billee J. Swallow and husband Joe, J. Leevi Knight and wife Miranda, Gabriel R. Kincaid and wife Jennifer, Mark A. Knight and wife Shannon, Amanda Knight, Candee J. Stinson, Gary E. Stinson, Justin W. Stinson, Jennifer L. Cook; 14 great-grandchildren, Taylee, Tyrzah, Teya, Tyzion, Katelyn, Kaleb, Cayla, Harrison, Christopher, Katherine, Kade, Hudson, Jazmyn and James Knight; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shorty's twin sister, Martha, granddaughter, Wendy Dawn Stinson, grandson, Jack James Stinson III and his beloved wife Ima Jean on April 6, 2010.
