Laverne – Funeral services for William Charles (Bill) Bunker, 70, will be at 3 PM Sunday in the First United Methodist Church in Laverne with the Revs. Wesley Peterman and Austin Bizzell officiating. Burial will follow at the Laverne Cemetery under the direction of Seeger Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be performed by the Laverne American legion Post # 273, Verlin Peetoon commanding.
Bunker died Friday as a result of an explosion in his garage where he was working.
He was born August 27, 1911, on the Bunker family ranch in Beaver County. He was the son of William and Nonia Bunker.
He spent all of his life in the Laverne area except during his military service in World War I I where he fought in Central Europe and northern France.
He married Joy Smith, April 6, 1942, in Woodward, two days before entering the war. He won three bronze service metals for his service and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant September 22, 1945.
He farmed near Laverne for many years and drove a truck for Good Construction Company until he retired in 1976. He was active in the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Senior Citizens Group and the Woodward Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen Harvey Ball, and one brother, Arthur.
He is survived by his wife, Joy, of the home; one son, Sergeant Kenneth Bunker, Whiteman Air Force Base, Sedalia, Missouri; one daughter, Mrs. Lannie (Sue) Zoldoske, May; four grandchildren, one nephew and one niece.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Home in Ponca City and the Laverne Senior Citizens Group.
