Funeral: 11:00 AM Saturday, March 22nd, 2014, Kibby Cemetery
Muriel L. Cooley, 86 year old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Woodward Regional Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Kibby Cemetery, north of Ft. Supply. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Muriel Lucille (Carpenter) Cooley was born on the old homeplace southeast of Mooreland, Oklahoma on October 22, 1928 to William Herman and Lola Marie (Haught) Carpenter. Muriel attended elementary school at Tangier and she then attended the Woodward schools. She was united in marriage to Chester Landon Cooley on July 22, 1953 in Taloga, Oklahoma. They owned a ranch south of Quinlan until 1956 when they moved to Woodward. In 1958 the family moved to Buffalo. She worked at the Harper County Journal for several years as a writer and she also helped on the family farm. She retired from Grace Living Center after working there 10 years. Muriel enjoyed putting puzzles together and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going fishing and always had a big garden at the farm.
She is survived by her son, Chester Cooley and wife Brenda of Woodward; step-son, J.C. Cooley of Ringwood; step-daughter, Rita Seaman and husband Duane of Waynoka; grandchildren, James R. Waugh of Woodward, Kaneishia Berends and husband Dustin of Woodward, Landon Cooley and wife Lola of Woodward; three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Roper Berends of Woodward and Cristin Cooley of Woodward; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Carpenter and Lola Gaston, her husband Chet, sisters, Letha Glaze, Bonnie Hill and her brother Melvin Gaston.
