The funeral for Mary Ellen Barth, 86, of Buffalo, will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Buffalo. The Rev. Jerry Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in High Point Cemetery , Buffalo. Arrangements are by Myatt Funeral Home, Buffalo. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Wednesday and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born April 25, 1922, in Keota to Frederick L. and Elmira McMasters and died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Harper County Community Hospital, Buffalo. She graduated from Keota High School in 1939 and from Oklahoma State University in 1943 with a bachelor of science degree. She later graduated from OSU in 1960 with a master's degree.
She married Max Barth Jr. July 26, 1943, in Heavener. He died Dec. 22, 2005.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Buffalo, Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Star, O.E.A., N.E.A., and was named Teacher of the Year in 1963. Surviving are one son, Jimmy Charles Barth of Ashland, Kan.; two daughters, Scotty Maxine Smith of Rosston and Aleta Marie Barth of Buffalo; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Max, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home, Box 909, Laverne, OK 73848, to Buffalo Fire Department or Buffalo EMS.
