Jesus Reyes Vela, age 72, of Gould, passed away Saturday
afternoon, May 28, 2016, at Plantation Village Nursing Home, in Altus.
Mr. Vela was born on January 6, 1944, in Rio Grande City, Texas to Catarino and
Hilaria (Lopez) Vela. When he turned eighteen, he moved to West Texas where he
began working as a farmhand all of his life. In 2010, Jesus moved to Gould, due
to his poor health, to be closer to his brother. When he wasn’t working, he
enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Acention, in 2010.
He is survived by eight children, Jesus Vela, Jr. of
California, Alberto Vela of California, Rene Vela of Edinburg, Texas, Catarino
Vela of Midlothian, Texas, Rosa Vela of Alvarado, Texas, Elizabeth Vela of
Midlothian, Texas and Javier Moctezuma Vela of San Angelo, Texas; seven
grandchildren, Gabriella Vela, Precilla Vela, Ruben Vela, Passion Vela, Catarino,
Jr. Vela, Jolisa Maria Vela and Christopher Vela; two sisters, Zoila Vela
Hernandez of Amarillo, Texas and Carmen Vela of Rio Grande City, Texas, Juan
Manuel Montezuma Vela; one brother, Noe Vela and wife Antonia of Gould along
with many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Jesus Reyes Vela will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 3,
3016, at the Gould Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home,
of Hollis.
