Iris LaVerne Sheets, 90, passed away February 23, 2014 in the Colonial Manor in Hollis, OK after a short illness.
LaVerne was born September 1, 1923, in the house on her parents homestead near Guymon, OK. She attended her elementary years at Banner country school. In 1941 she graduated from Guymon High School. She married Floyd Wesley Sheets of Spearman, TX on Oct. 18, 1942. They spent the majority of their life on the family farm where she was born. She was a homemaker and helpmate to her husband in farming and other businesses. In 1981 they moved to Gould, OK and worked for the Gould Schools, where they enjoyed the life of being around the teachers and students. Since 2007, she has lived in the Colonial Manor in Hollis, OK. LaVerne was a member of the Hollis church of Christ.      

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, parents, Martha Ann (Mallard) and Edgar Lee Weatherford and her seven siblings, Claud, Raymond, Carroll, Maudie Webb, Velma Roden, Ozella Chisum, and Lucille Doley.

Survivors include four daughters, Gail Cansler and husband, Bob of Gould; Winnell Whitehead and husband, Russ, of Woodward; Luann Burford and husband, David, of Drummond; and Joyce Allen and husband, Terry, of Quanah, TX. Also surviving are her 9 grandchildren Roy Cansler and wife, Reve; Teri White and husband, Mori; Kyle Whitehead and wife, Lora; Kevin Cansler and wife Melissa; Jenice Roberts and husband, Johnny; Mandi Jalomo and husband, Richard; Jeanette Middleton and husband, Michael; Jerod Burford and wife, Kim; and Barbie Sloan and husband, Joshua. Last but not least were her 19 great grandchildren. These include Miranda, Matthew, Michael, Carson, Kellen, Corbin, Kale, Alexa, Austin, Kyleigh, Cole, Trey, Addy, Courtney, Ethan, Shelby, Baylor, Boston, and Gavin.       

The family wants to express a special thank you to the Colonial Manor staff for the kindness and care they gave LaVerne while she lived there.
