Carla was born on December 19, 1984, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to William Bruce McCarver and Sharon Kay (VanLandingham) McCarver. Raised in the close-knit community of Hollis, she grew up in a multigenerational family of gospel singers, where faith and music were a central part of everyday life. She graduated from Hollis High School with the Class of 2003, where she participated in choir, band, and played the clarinet. Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, Carla loved sharing gospel music with others and encouraging people through song. After high school, Carla attended Western Technology Center, graduating from the Practical Nursing program with the Class of 2006-2007. She dedicated her career to geriatric nursing, faithfully serving residents in nursing homes throughout Hollis, Weatherford, Altus, and Mangum. She was known for her compassion, patience, and the genuine care she showed every patient and family she served. Carla accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of thirteen and was baptized on February 23, 1997, at First Baptist Church of Hollis, Oklahoma. Her faith was the foundation of her life and guided the way she loved, served, and cared for others. She especially treasured the influence of her grandmothers, whose example helped shape both her faith and her love of gospel music. Outside of work, Carla enjoyed writing songs, singing, watching movies, taking long drives through Harmon County, and listening to all kinds of music. She had a kind heart, welcomed everyone with warmth, and was always willing to encourage those around her. More than anything, Carla cherished being a mother.
She considered raising her three daughters-Emma, Hannah, and Sophia-to be her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. They were the center of her life, and she loved them with all her heart.
She is survived by her loving parents, William Bruce McCarver and Sharon Kay McCarver; her beloved daughters, Emma Cress, Hannah Cress, and Sophia Cress; her brother, Derek McCarver, and wife, Jennifer; her niece, Zoe McCarver; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, coworkers, and everyone whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, J.R. McCarver and Alda McCarver; her maternal grandparents, Wendell VanLandingham and Barbara VanLandingham; and her beloved cousin, Ginger Earls.
A celebration of Carla's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis, Oklahoma.
Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the McCarver family plot at Gould Cemetery in Gould, Oklahoma.
Carla's legacy lives on through the love she shared, the lives she touched as a nurse, the faith she lived each day, the music she loved, and most of all through her three daughters. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
