Peggy Joyce Templeton Ashurst, age 66, met the Lord early in
the morning of May 14, 2016, at her residence in Gould, Oklahoma.
Peggy was born September 11, 1949 in Pampa, Texas to Henry Harding and Ruth Gage
Templeton. Peggy attended and graduated school in Hollis, Oklahoma in 1967. On
May 16, 1967, she married the love of her life, L.Z. Ashurst. They were happily
married 49 years. From that union three children were born.
She has been a devoted wife and mother. Peggy worked as a teacher with the
Garland Independent School District, Great Plains National Bank and owned her
own store, “Angels and Us” in Eldorado, Oklahoma. She followed the Lord
throughout her life and returned to her home church, First Assembly of God in
Hollis, Oklahoma. Peggy enjoyed helping others and guiding her family and
friends towards the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Harding Templeton and Ruth
(Gage) Berry; two sisters, Linda Thompson and Vicki Templeton; and one brother,
Steve Templeton.
Peggy is survived by her husband, L.Z. Ashurst of the home and three children,
Lisa (Ashurst) Ganus and husband Darrell of Kilgore, Texas, Darla (Ashurst)
Fowler and husband, David of Kyle, Texas and Larry Ashurst and wife Denonda of
Wheeler, Texas; nine grandchildren, Courtney and Carley Ganus, Matthew and Louie
Fowler, Joshua, Cody, Brooke, Levi and Garrett Ashurst; along with her sister,
Kay Kelsey and two brothers, Mark Cockrell and Terry Templeton. Also surviving
are twenty-two nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Peggy Ashurst will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016,
at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Gould
Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Harmon County Funeral Home on Tuesday evening,
May 17, 2016, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.
