Melba Allene Roberts, age 83, of Hollis, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Allene was born on April 20, 1930 in Hastings, Oklahoma to Andrew Lee and Lottie (Hill) Moore. She grew up and went to school in Hastings, where she played on the high school basketball team. On April 1, 1947, Allene married the love of her life, Harvey Roberts in Walters, Oklahoma and they spent many wonderful years together before his death. Allene and Harvey farmed at Quanah, Crowell, Chillicothe, and Odell for many years before retiring to Hollis in 1986. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Allene loved music and playing the organ.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Lucille Brashears, Dorothy Morrow, Lora Bilbrey and Melrose Rowe; one brother, Chet Moore; and one sister-in-law, Stella Roberts.
Allene is survived by one sister, Colva Owens; two brothers, A.J. Moore and Eugene “Boots” Moore; two sister-in-laws, Irene Fish and Mary Pilgreen along with many nieces, nephews, close friends and other relatives.
Graveside services for Melba Allene Roberts will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery with Ed Stegall officiating and under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home.
