Ignacio C. Martinez, age 83, of Hollis, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus. Mr. Martinez was born in Vera Cruz, Mexico on July 31, 1928, to Leobardo and Herminia (Castillo) Martinez. Moving to McAllen, Texas at age 17, he lived with his aunt until he began working in the migrant harvest at age 22. In 1952, he made his way to Harmon County where he worked at the gin and as a farm laborer. In 1955, he met the love of his life, Minerva “Minnie” Alviar, and they were married on November 25, 1957, and spent the next fifty-four wonderful years together before his death. After their marriage, they established their home in Hollis where he lived until his death. Over the years, Ignacio worked on different farms, at the lumberyard, for thirteen years at Colonial Manor II and later he and Minnie drove to Elk City for ten years where he worked in maintenance at the Elk City Hospital. A loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, Ignacio spent his spare time walking, going to the lake, reading and spending time with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters and a grandson, Bruce Martinez.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Martinez, of the home; six children, Ignacio Martinez, Jr. of Dallas, George Martinez, Sr. and wife Ali of Wilburton, Oklahoma, Leobardo Martinez and wife Evelyn of Glen Rose, Texas, Herminia Pina and husband Joel, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Patricia Johnson and husband James, Sr. of Alma, Arkansas and Andrea Martinez and husband Phillip of Midlothian, Texas; one brother Elis Martinez of Vera Cruz, Mexico; twenty-four grandchildren, Armondo Martinez, Tiffany Scott-Lee, Joshua Martinez, George Martinez, Jr., Janay Riley, Martin Martinez, Ignacio Jorge Martinez, Monica Martinez, Robert Thompson, Leobardo Martinez, Jr., Stephanie Berry, Tiffany Ann Cheek, Miguel Martinez, Joel Pina, III, Alexander Pina, Rindy Martinez, James Johnson, Jr., Shacy Johnson, Dillon Johnson, Chloe Johnson, Priscilla Martinez, Philicia Martinez, Alexandrea Martinez and Andrea Martinez; thirteen great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass for Ignacio C. Martinez will be at 11 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2012, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Hollis.

Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
