Virginia Dungan, age 82, of Hollis, passed away early Monday
morning, November 18, 2013, at Colonial Manor II, in Hollis.
Mrs. Dungan was born in Wellington, Texas on March 29, 1931, to
Arthur William and Alice (Whittington) Bruce. Moving to the
Pumpkin Center Community, east of Lawton, as a child, Virginia
graduated from Central High School in 1948. On January 28, 1949,
she married the love of her life, Perry Dungan, in Lawton, and
they spent the next fifty-eight wonderful years together before
his death on April 5, 2007. The made their home in Comanche
County, where Perry worked for Public Service, until 1971, when
they moved to Altus. While in Altus, they owned and operated the
Sundown Motel and Perry served as a deputy sheriff for Jackson
County. In 1978, they moved to Hollis where they purchased the
62 Motel and Perry served as the Chief of Police for the city of
Hollis. A longtime member of the Baptist Church, Virginia loved
taking care of her family and friends and a spent any free-time
that she had in a game of bowling.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter
Tina Beaty, and one sister, Billie Brooks.She is survived by
two children, Patricia Ruth Cardwell and husband Doyce of Miami,
Oklahoma and Reggie Dungan and wife Debbie, of Altus; five
grandchildren, Mashell, Angie, Jason, Julie and Sara; one
sister, Elsie Spelce of Burleson, Texas and many other relatives
and friends.
Graveside funeral services for Virginia Dungan will be at 10
a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Fairmount Cemetery under
the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home.
