Julia Faye Cummins, age 82, of Hollis, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 4, 2015, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus. Mrs. Cummins was born in Grandfield, Oklahoma on October 9, 1932, to Lawrence and Lucille (Poole) Hubanks. Moving to Hollis as a young child, Julia graduated from Hollis High School. She later married Doug Poteet and they moved to Pampa, Texas where they lived until 1980. Returning to Hollis, they managed and operated the 62 Motel. On March 8, 1981, Doug died and Julia married Wendell Cummins on September 13, 1982. They continued to run the motel and Wendell died in April 2009, leaving Julia to run the motel until selling in 2010, due to her failing health. Julia loved country and western music and going to Branson, but most of all she loved being with her family and friends.Preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; her daughter Tawana Crockett and two brothers, Bobby Hubanks and Junior Hubanks.
She is survived by one daughter, Sherri Vasquez and
fiancé Dan Daniel of Canyon, Texas; two step sons, Jerry Cummins
of Childress, Texas and Rick Cummins and wife Robbie of
Childress, Texas; five grandchildren, Sherilyn Vogal and husband
Jimmy of Edmond, Oklahoma, Rhonda Hill of Canyon, Texas, Judith
Brooks of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Justin Crockett of Tulsa,
Oklahoma and Jason Crockett of Hollis; eight great
grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and many other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Julia Cummins will be at 10 a.m., Friday,
February 6, 2015, at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel with Gary
Kellison officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount
Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of
Hollis.
