Dwain Lee Christian, age 75, of Hollis, passed away Tuesday evening, August 16, 2011, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Christian was born, in Hollis, on February 8, 1936, to Lono “Herschel” and Ethel Ruth (Owens) Christian. After graduating from Hollis High School in 1954, Dwain attended Cameron College and later Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University, where he received his degree in Agriculture. Returning to Hollis, he worked a short time for Ray Preston Spraying and later began farming and ranching. A long time member of the Church of Christ, Dwain loved his grandchildren and was very proud of them. Known in the community for always being there for “the kids”, Dwain helped young people with their show pigs or any other project they needed help with. Also known as “twenty-two”, Dwain was a self-made entomologist and could tell you the name of every bug that was known. Dwain’s family was very important to him, but the grandkids came first and then his enjoyment of fishing.
Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Marty Christian and one brother, Darril (Shotgun) Christian, he is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home; two daughters, Donna Thompson of Hollis and Keila Luna and husband Ben of Hollis; six grandchildren, Shana Thompson of Carrollton, Texas, Shane Thompson and wife Renee of Highlands, Texas, Tori Luna, B.J. Luna, Sam Luna and Adam Luna, all of Hollis; one great granddaughter, Te’unah Scott; two sisters, Patsy Sparkman and husband Roy of Amarillo, Texas and Dulan Emmert and husband Freddy of Elgin, Oklahoma along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Dwain Christian will be at 10 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2011, at the Dodson, Texas Church of Christ with Earl Seigrist officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
