Bessie Jean Carrick was born on June 22, 1931, to Hollis and Bessie (Crow) Trammell in Whiteharrel, Texas. They moved to Hollis, Oklahoma when she was 9 years old. She attended school at Ron where she met Robert Leon Carrick, and they married her senior year, December 23, 1948. They lacked two months being married for 72 years. She worked at the A.S.C.S. office in Harmon County for 32 years. She also was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Hollis, where she served in many capacities for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.


Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; her three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Earl Hewitt, Laverne and Curtis Hayes, and Elena Faye and Tommy Rutledge; and grandson-in-law, Brandon Berry.


Jean is survived by her son, Robert Carrick and his wife, Sheryie, of Durant, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Robyn and her husband, Craig, of Altus, Oklahoma, and Jamie Berry of Norman, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Tim, Rain, Taylor, James, and Michelle, all of Altus; Philip Berry of Norman; great-great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Krystine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.


The Carrick family will receive friends at Harmon County Funeral Home Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.


Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Hollis with interment following at Fairmount Cemetery.
