Otis Douglas Boone, age 80, of Hollis, passed away early Saturday morning, September 21, 2013, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital, in Hollis. Mr. Boone was born on the family farm, near Hollis, on June 2, 1933, to O.A. and Charcy Faye (Hollis) Boone. Graduating from Ron School in 1951, he joined the United States Navy. During a short time at port, Doug went AWOL for two days in order to return to Hollis, where he married the love of his life, Bobby Pennington, on May 3, 1952. Returning to ship in Newport, Rhode Island they headed for an assignment in the Mediterranean Sea during the Korean Conflict. Shortly after his discharge in 1954, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas where Doug worked at a smelter. After a short time in Amarillo, Doug became a motorcycle officer with the Borger Texas Police Department. In 1960, Doug was named the chief of police in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he served the next few years. In the mid 1960’s, the Boones made their final move to Hollis where Doug worked for Harmon Electric and Republic Gypsum as an electrician before establishing Boone’s Electric. His final job was as the lead electrician for the “Roach Unit” with the Texas Department of Corrections, in Childress. After his retirement, Doug enjoyed fishing, camping, going on cruises, an occasional trip to Las Vegas and spending time with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sheila Bartels and one brother Curtis Boone.

He is survived by his wife, Bobby, of the home; one daughter, Trish Bartlett and partner, Patty Castillo of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Crosby Bartels and girlfriend, Amy Shoopman of Norman, Scott Bartlett of Tulsa and Jaxon Castillo of Tulsa; four sisters, Lilly Moldenhauer of Amarillo, Jeanne Laurence of Amarillo, Elaine Boatright of Edmond and Fayreen Lucas and husband Dee of Wichita Falls, Texas; three brothers, W.T. Boone and wife Odessa of Hollis, Don Boone and wife Cheryl of Follett, Texas and Nicky Boone and wife Donna of Hollis along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Doug Boone will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the Hollis Church of Christ with Burl Butler officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis. The family will greet friends at Harmon County Funeral Home on Monday, September 23, 2013, from 6 until 7 p.m.
