Doris June Whorton, age 83, of Altus, and formerly of Hollis,
passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2013, at her
residence, in Altus.
Doris was born in Liberal, Kansas on April 28, 1929, to Ted and
Clarice Erline (Cox) Taylor. At a family gathering, she met the
love of her life, Ted Whorton, and after a short courtship, they
were married on September 6, 1946, and spent the next sixty-four
wonderful years together before his death on May 14, 2011. For
many years they farmed and ranched in the Dryden Community.
Moving to the Friendship Community, in Jackson County in 1968,
they farmed and ranched until 2000, when they returned to the
Dryden Community. After Ted’s death, Doris lived in the family
home until moving to Tamarack Retirement Center in January 2012.
A Christian mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, Doris taught
Sunday School at Dryden Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist
Church for many years. Doris loved her family and friends and
enjoyed spending time with them, but in her spare time she
enjoyed being a member of the Altus Garden Club for many years,
sewing, cooking, watching musicals and the preaching of the
Gospel on T. V.
Preceded in death by her parents and a brother Larry Taylor.
Doris is survived by three children, Ronnie Whorton and wife
Lyne of Tulsa, Karen Ferguson and husband Stuart of Headrick and
Bobby Whorton of Hollis; eight grandchildren, Cheri, Lance,
Maria, John, Robert, Josh, Lindsay and Ashley; fourteen great
grandchildren, one sister, Lois Fox of Guymon along with many
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Doris Whorton will be at 10 a.m., Monday,
April 29, 2013, in the Dryden Cemetery Chapel with Dr. Royce
Smith and Rev. Madison Clinton officiating. Interment will
follow in the Dryden Cemetery under the direction of Harmon
