Harmon County Funeral Home

Doris Murl Whorton Morrow was born, March 26, 1920, just minutes before her twin brother, Norris Verl Whorton. The twins were born in the family home in the Dryden Community to Tom and Odie Nelson Whorton.

Murl graduated from Gould High School Class of 1938, where she excelled in basketball. Following graduation she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where she went to Cosmetology school. While practicing her trade in Iowa Park, Texas she met the love of her life John C. "Jack" Morrow, a Sergeant in the Air Force stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Murl and Jack were married December 9, 1941, together they lived in several states and Alaska while Jack was serving his country. Upon Jack's retirement they moved to Orlando, Florida. Murl and Jack enjoyed taking trips to visit long time friends and family. It was on one of the trips that Jack had a heart attack and passed away, October 16, 1975. Murl continued to make her home in Orlando where she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Orlando. With her church she made many pilgrimages to foreign lands on mission trips. One of her delights was to tell about walking where Jesus walked and never ceased to be amazed that a country kid like her was privileged to go to many wonderful places. She made regular visits to Hollis to see her Mother, Father and other dear family members. She loved her family very much.
In 2008, with the assistance of her great nephew Kurt and wife Shannon Hudson she moved to Hollis, Oklahoma. Murl was able to enjoy her goals to live in Hollis and to reach her 90th birthday. She enjoyed a birthday celebration given in her honor by Kurt and Shannon in their home with many family members in attendance.
When her health failed she moved to the Colonial Manor II where she passed away, Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Murl is survived by nieces Sylvia and husband, Lee Roy Hudson, Gay Hicks, Hollis, Oklahoma; Nancy Whorton Hurd, Georgia; Cyndi and husband Jim Brooks, Texas; Jim Johnson and wife Kelly, North Carolina; Carla Bainter, Donna Mulvey and husband Dale of Illinois, and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Murl was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Odie Whorton, her sisters Evelyn Byrd, Oma Lee Johnson, her brother, Wendell "Doc" Whorton, her twin brother Norris Verl Whorton and her beloved husband, Jack.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Dryden Cemetery, where she will rest by her beloved husband Jack and with other family members. Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
