Harmon County Funeral Home

Kathryn Kay Adams, 69, of Vinson, Oklahoma passed away Friday, September 18, 2015. Kay was born August 1, 1946 in the Mangum Hospital to Harold and Wanda (Foley) McCain of Vinson, Oklahoma. Kay attended twelve years of public school in Vinson and was one of five members of the last graduating class in 1964. Kay attended college in Weatherford at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Kay had a love for animals, which had been directly inherited from her Mother and Grandmother. Even though life occasionally took her away from Vinson for other pursuits, her love was always with the ranching life down the rolling hills of Grape Creek.

Kay married Ernie Adams on July 15, 1982 at the Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Kay’s ability to adapt and many talents were shown while working in hotel management in Houston, as an insurance agent in Southwest Oklahoma, and for a travel agency in Elk City. She owned two cafes in Mangum, was a receptionist for a bank, and a PMR for the U. S. Postal Service.

Kay was an excellent cook, seamstress, and in her later years produced beautiful pottery art. Kay was a keeper and teacher of history, especially the history of the Vinson area.

Kay helped many people go through tough times with a firm but very loving hand. She was one of the first to lend a shoulder to cry on when someone lost their loved ones. She worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was all fed and cared for; then checked up on everyone for the weeks to come to make sure everything was alright.

Kay’s Indian heritage was a huge part of her life and once she had a granddaughter she had the chance to express it. She named her granddaughter Te’onna after her heritage and was extremely proud to have this chance. Te’onna became her pride and joy and she showed her the upmost love.

Kay was preceded in death by her son, Michael; daughter Kristi O’Guin; and a host of family and friends.

Kay is survived by her husband, Ernie Adams of the home; and her granddaughter Te’onna Parker and her husband Chase of El Reno, Oklahoma.

Graveside services were held 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 21, 2015 at Cake Creek Cemetery in Vinson, Oklahoma under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis, Oklahoma.
