Eller Marie Simmons was born September 7, 1920 in Carter, Oklahoma to Martha Ann and Soloman Patterson. She passed away April 1, 2013 at Amarillo, Texas at the age of 92 years 6 months and 24 days.
Eller grew up in the Carter community. She was married to James Marlin Simmons on February 4, 1938 and they lived in Sayre. They moved to Arizona for a short time before moving back to Oklahoma and they made their home in the Delhi and Erick communities. Eller was a very patient woman, quiet and kind to all those who she met and always had a smile on her face.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 children, James Simmons, Jean Nelson, Don Simmons, Duane Simmons, Betty Mayfield, 9 grandchildren, Chris Simmons, Mandy and Robyn Simmons, Kenny Gipson, Betty Jean Blackshear, Sharon Beth Beam, Sandra Dee Abla, Kimberly Jo Simmons, Bobby Lynn Simmons, 2 brothers, Orville Patterson and Willie Patterson, and an infant sister.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Marie Franklin and husband Eddie, Dumas, TX, Mary Cherry, Amarillo, TX and Hazel Gipson and husband, Kenneth, Shamrock, TX; 5 sons, Jimmy Simmons and wife, Toni, Memphis, TN, Dale Simmons, Hacker, AR, Bobby Simmons, Amarillo, TX, Jerry Simmons, Amarillo, TX, Wayne Simmons, Amarillo, TX; 1 sister, Pearl Snow, Hutchison, KS; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held today, April 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Chapel officiated by Darrell Gray. Burial will be at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre. Condolences can be made online at Whinery Funeral Service.
