Travis Wayne Hatter was born July 17, 1923, in Greer County, Oklahoma, to Sudie
Prigmore Hatter and William Travis Hatter. He married Catherine Elzora "Betty"
Rozell on December 3, 1949, and they have one son, Richard Wayne Hatter.
Wayne passed away early Sunday morning, December 25, 2011, at his residence, in
Elk City, Oklahoma, at the age of eighty-eight years old.
He attended school in Oklahoma and Texas. Later, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during World War II. Wayne lived most of his life in Greer County where he ranched and worked in the steel industry. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum, Oklahoma, Wayne was a devoted Christian whose love, inspiration, cheerfulness, and optimism touched many throughout his life. He enjoyed being with family and friends, and will be missed deeply by those having the wonderful opportunity to know him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, "Betty" of Mangum and Elk City, Oklahoma; his son, Richard of New York, New York; and three sisters, Irma Jo Jackson and her husband John of Elk City, Oklahoma, Jimmie Grace Corbitt and her husband Norris of Elk City, Oklahoma, Travonna Wootton and her husband Verlin of Willow, Oklahoma; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Other survivors include many close family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Travis Wayne Hatter will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Mangum with the Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
