Don Green was born June 5, 1967 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Donna (Moss) and Mike Green. He passed away October 30, 2014 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 47 years, 4 months and 25 days.Don grew up in Moore, Oklahoma and Sayre, graduating from Sayre High School
in 1986. He continued his education at Sayre Junior College and then
attended Barber School. After his graduation he opened Don's Barber Shop in
Sayre. Don decided to complete his education and returned to Junior College
where
he received his Associate's Degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Don loved to be with his family especially his nephews and nieces. He loved
to tell them stories and they loved to listen to Uncle Don's stories. He was
an excellent storyteller. He enjoyed reading books, history and biographies
were his favorites. He has always liked to spend long hours in a library. He
started reading my encyclopedias with comprehension when he was six. He went
on to reading my text books applying his new found "knowledge" in his
elementary classes, prompting a few calls from his teachers. They knew he
was intelligent, but just couldn't believe he could understand my psychology
text books. But I knew I had quite a boy when one day we were driving in the
car. A car passed us and I told him to look at the Lincoln. He said ,"No,
Cadillac, Mommy." I told him again that it was a Lincoln. He replied that it
was a Cadillac. I caught up to the car..it was a Cadillac. Don was fifteen
months old. When he was eighteen months old, he fell and knocked his front
tooth out. He was 26 months older than Phil. We were in a store one day and
a lady asked him what happened to his tooth. He said his brother knocked it
out. She said, "Oh my, How old is your brother?" Don turned around and
pointed to six weeks old Phil and said, "There he is with a wide smile." She
looked at me and said, "You poor dear." Don was always entertaining and a
true joy to be with. He started talking at six months and was known as motor
mouth (affectionately) by his kindergarten teachers. I wondered if his
brothers would ever get a chance to talk. He loved to be with his Granddad
and Granny Moss. He enjoyed sitting with Granddad hearing stories of his
childhood and just talking with him. He liked being larger than his
brothers, but hated that he was too big to gallop Granddad's horses. He had
to clean the stalls, not his favorite job. He was a very kind, generous
person. He would and has given his last dollar if he thought someone needed
it. Granny would say that Don and I would fuss because we were so much
alike. We would turn and tell her," No, we're not." But we were, right down
to turning our hand the same way when we slept. Don was from the moment he
was born my special little redheaded boy. I know he is out of the pain he
had had for so long and visiting with my parents, but I sure do miss him. I
treasure the last "I love you, Mom" and long hug he gave me in the hospital.
You are really loved, Don!
