Vesta Leona (Washburn) Shumate, age 91, of Mangum, passed away at her residence early Sunday morning, June 27, 2010.

Mrs. Shumate was born on October 15, 1918, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Clarence and Myrtle (Hamilton) Washburn. She married Charlie Dee Shumate on January 3, 1934, and they spent the next seventy-six wonderful years farming and working together. Vesta and Charlie were very private people, but were a very loving and giving couple who helped many people throughout their lives.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, Charlie, of the home, and several nieces and nephews. A private family service was held, in their home, on Monday, June 28, 2010, with Brother Glen Burkhalter officiating. A private interment was conducted Tuesday morning with Greer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
