J.L. Maddox, age 85, of Lafayette, Louisiana, formerly of the Reed Community, passed away, Thursday, November 08, 2012, in Lafayette.
Mr. Maddox was born in Northern Harmon County, not far from the Reed, Oklahoma Community, on March 10, 1927, to John L. and Mona F. (Alexander) Maddox. After attending school at Sulphur and Reed, J.L. joined the United States Army on June 25, 1945, and proudly served his country until December 14, 1946, when he was honorably discharged. On October 8, 1950, he married the love of his life, Wilma Jennings, in Muleshoe, Texas, and they spent the next sixty-two wonderful years together before his death. A longtime farmer and rancher in the Reed area, he was a member of the Reed Baptist Church and later the Vinson Baptist Church and the American Legion. In his spare time, J.L. enjoyed fishing with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Neva Daniel and Mary Earley; two brothers, Murry Maddox and Joe Maddox and two great grandsons, Benjamin Knott and Triston Goodwin, he is survived by his wife Wilma; one son, Joe Bob Maddox and wife Martha; two daughters, Karen Lefler and husband Terry and Sandra Griego and husband Chris; two granddaughters, Shannon Goodwin and husband Aaron and Lainey Coon and husband Tim; four grandsons, Tony Knott and wife Winter, Michael Griego and wife Anneliese, Justin Maddox and Christopher Griego; one sister, Wilda Donson along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for J.L. Maddox will be at 2 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Trinity Baptist Church, in Mangum, with Pastor James Flinn officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Sunday, November 11, 2012, from 5 until 6 p.m.
