Tullie D Harris, age 93, of Mangum, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Grace Living Center, in Mangum.
Mr. Harris was born on July 8, 1918, in Weston, Texas to Clive D and Lillie Oneda (Culwell) Harris. As a small child, the family moved to the Jester Community, where he grew up during the depression. After graduating from Eastview School in 1936, he and his twin brother, Cullie B Harris, left to attend the University of Oklahoma. Following two years at OU, Tullie returned to Mangum and worked for Bill Goad Pontiac and Garage. After three years, Tullie entered the United States Army, during World War II, to become a pilot. Because of his eyesight, he could not fly and became an airplane mechanic; working on P-38’s and later was promoted to Crew Chief. In July 6, 1945, he was honorably discharged. On June 14, 1941, he married Nita Faye Thrower and she preceded him in death in 1982. For forty-two years, Tullie lived and worked in California at a Pontiac plant, but for over thirty of those years, Tullie worked for the California Division of Forestry. In 1985, Tullie moved back to Mangum and on January 25, 1985, he married Euva Mae (Cooper) Fanning and she preceded him in death in 1992. Tullie later married Charlotte Merritt on July 6, 1995, in Vernon, Texas. Tullie enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time at the farm, working with his cattle.
Preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Tinney Harris; two brothers, Cullie B Harris and Jerome Harris; one sister, Sharon LaVerne Moore; one son, Robert Dee Harris; a step-daughter, Carrie Elaine Beach and his wives, Nita Faye and Euva Mae, Tullie is survived by his wife Charlotte Harris, of the home; one son, John Richard Harris and wife Cynthia of Hunting Beach, California and one stepson, Rod Allen Burrows and wife Christy of Tea, South Dakota; one granddaughter, Mariah Harris of El Sobrante, California; four step-grandchildren, Rebecca Burrows, Samantha Burrows, Lily Burrows and Ella Burrows of Tea, South Dakota and many other friends and relatives.
Graveside services for Tullie D Harris will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Roselawn Cemetery, Mangum, with John Harris presenting the eulogy. Interment will follow by Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
