Rena Sells-Fryman was born August 19, 1927 in Rufe,
Oklahoma to Ila Mae (Nelson) and Erastus Shaw. She passed away June 24, 2016 at
Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 5 days.
Rena grew up in Texas, living in a lot of different locations where she helped
her mom and dad farm cotton. She met J. B. just as he came home from WWII. They
married in Vernon, Texas and traveled around following the oilfield. They
settled in Odessa, Texas in 1953 after having their first daughter, Barbara. Two
years later they had another daughter, Donna. Rena survived her husband J. B.
after a short illness in 1968. She later remarried in 1974 to Wayne Fryman. She
also survived Wayne after a sudden illness in 1988. She continued to reside in
Odessa until 2006, and then relocated to Elk City, Oklahoma with her youngest
daughter, Donna.
Rena was a long-time member of the Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. She
loved to cook, sew, knit, crochet, garden, and loved canning the fruits and
vegetables from her garden. She was a beauty operator for approximately 18
years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, 1 brother, Doyle Shaw, 2
sisters, Gladys Gifford and Oleta Gifford, 2 grandsons, Shawn Deems and Brian
Millirons and a great grandson, Stephen Newell.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Carter, Odessa, TX; 2 daughters, Barbara
Sells of Houston, TX and Donna Garrett of Elk City, OK; 4 grandchildren, Shannon
Newell, Krystal Hutson, Leslie VanSchuyver and Dale Millirons, 11 great
grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and
friends.
