Oma Mae Wetsel, age 87, of Mangum, passed away early Monday morning, March 26, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Wetsel was born on December 24, 1924, in Blake, Oklahoma to Charles and Emma (Thompson) Passmore. After graduating from Mangum High School in 1943, Oma Mae moved to California to work in an aircraft factory where she riveted aircraft during the war. Later, moving back to Mangum, she worked a short time as a telephone operator before marrying the love of her life, Everett Curtis Wetsel, on July 17, 1947, in Mangum, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2011 after sixty-three wonderful years of marriage. A long-time member of the Church of Christ, Oma Mae worked alongside of Curtis, on the farm and in every endeavor he pursued. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, working crossword puzzles, playing forty-two and Yahtzee.
Preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Hall, and her husband, she is survived by two sons, Steven Curtis Wetsel of Mangum and Charles Earl Wetsel and wife Jan of Edmond; four grandchildren, Stephenie Ann Golden and husband Lloyd of Mangum, Bradley Steven Wetsel of Mangum, Jonathan Charles Wetsel of Oklahoma City and Jared Micheal Wetsel of Edmond; five great grandchildren, Cristal Renee Blain, Vanessa Jean Blain, Jacob Murray Blain, Kaylin McKinsey Wetsel and Cassette Irvin; two great-great grandchildren, Talon Joe Madrid and Taycee Mae Madrid along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Oma Mae Wetsel will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Todd McRay officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 until 7 p.m.
