Lora "Jane" Head, age 87, formerly of
Mangum, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Linwood Village Nursing
Home in Cushing from congestive heart failure.
Jane was born in Granite on September 19,
1924 to Emmet L. Bevis and Anne Holbert Mackey Bevis She attended grade
school in Granite and graduated from Mangum High School in 1942. After
graduation she attended Hills Business College.
On November 13, 1949, Lora Jane Bevis and
Kenneth Mint Head were united in marriage at the Central Christian Church in
Hobart, Oklahoma. They had two daughters, Carol Ann and Lora Jane.
Jane worked for the government for many
years, serving first in the Soil Conservation Service and then in the
Selective Service. After her government service she worked as a secretary in
insurance and as a bank teller. She was the Class of 1942 secretary for many
years. Jane also enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader.
Jane was a kind, generous and thoughtful
person. She had a special interest in and affection for cats and they loved
her too. She enjoyed yard work, picking up her pecan crop each year, playing
Solitaire, reading, but her greatest joy was serving her family and friends.
Jane professed her Christian faith at First Baptist Church in Granite where
her mother taught the Young People’s Sunday School Class for 25 years.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of
fifty-five years, Kenneth; her parents; one daughter, Lora; one brother, Joe
Bevis; one sister, Ruth Pace. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Dennis
and her husband Tommy; granddaughter Kristin Beitz and her husband Mark;
great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Jensen Beitz; all of Cushing, and a
brother-in-law, Joe Head; of Mangum.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00
p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the First Baptist Church in
Mangum with Casey Paxton officiating. The service is under the direction
of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.
As Jane was a very generous person, memorial
contributions may be made to any charity of your choice.
