Funeral service for Vicki Y. Clanton, age 67, of Chickasha, was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2002, in the Epworth United Methodist Church, Rev. Larry Jacobson officiated.

Vicki Y. Clanton, the daughter of Victor Yarberry and Edith Hoover Yarberry, was born on July 13, 1934, in Mangum, Oklahoma. She died on Friday, April 12, 2002, in Chickasha.

Vicki was raised in Mangum and attended Mangum High School where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1952. She then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. Vicki continued her education at Oklahoma University and received her master's degree in early childhood education. Vicki was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Vicki married Jack Clayton on August 14, 1956, in Mangum and then moved to Chickasha. After moving to Chickasha, Vicki taught kindergarten and first grade at Chickasha Public Schools. She taught in the Chickasha Public Schools system for twenty years. Vicki also taught in other schools for six years. Vicki's love for teaching was also seen in her active involvement in teaching adult literacy.

Vicki was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Junior Social Workers, National Education Association, Chickasha Educational Association, Chickasha Public Library Board, President of the Board of Directors of Southwest Youth and Family Services. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, traveling and especially cruises.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: her husband: Jack Clayton, of Chickasha; daughter and son-in-law; Lisa Clayton, M.D. and Jeff Kemp, of Coppell, Texas; daughter and son-in-law; Celia and Greg Lowry, of Coppell, Texas; granddaughter: Haley Kemp, of Coppell, Texas; granddaughter: Alyssa Lowry, of Coppell, Texas; and granddaughter: Danielle Lowry, of Coppell, Texas.

Graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, in the Riverside Cemetery in Mangum, Oklahoma. Rev. Elbert Shumaker officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association, Oklahoma Chapter, 6465 South Yale, Suite 206, Tulsa, OK 74136-7804, for research.
