Edra Fern Buchanan, age 83, of Hobart and formerly of Mangum,
passed away early Sunday morning, September 21, 2008, at Hobart Living Center.
Mrs. Buchanan was born on February 18, 1925, to Elisha Benjamin and Willie
(Lock) Heatly in Reed, Oklahoma.
She Graduated from Reed High School in 1943 and married Emory Vaughn in 1947, in
Mangum. In 1952, they moved to Oklahoma City with Emory's job, and later lived
in Blair where Emory was manager of the Farmers Union Coop Gin. They returned to
Mangum in the late 1950's.
For twenty years, Fern was well known in Mangum as the Avon lady. She earned
many honors for her sales ability. Fern continued to live in Mangum following
Emory's death in 1981.
On July 17, 1984 she married Tommy Buchanan. They resided in Mangum until
September 2006 when she moved to the Hobart Living Center, where she resided
until her death.
One of the things that Fern enjoyed through the years was being a hostess for
guests in her home and cooking. Her specialty was fudge. In later years she
enjoyed eating out and spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Buchanan is survived by her husband Tommy of Hobart; four children, Sonia
Cargal of Martha, Glenda Black and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, Billy Vaughn of
Memphis, Tennessee and Danny Vaughn and wife Lynda of Hobart; one step-daughter,
Connie Ard of Hobart; eight grandchildren, Phil Cargal, Shawn Cargal,
Dana Mahan, Gwen Morris, Rhonda Livingston, Rodney Vaughn, Jayson Vaughn and
Miranda Wagner; three step-grandchildren, Jim Ard, Tim Ard and Joley Duff;
twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren along with many other
relatives and friends.
Her parents Elisha Heatly and Willie Heatly Wright, her husband, Emory Vaughn,
one grandson, Michael Vann and one brother, Robert Heatly, preceded her in
death.
Funeral services for Edra Fern Buchanan will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday,
September 24, 2008, at Greer
Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum with Pastor Josh Wagner officiating.
Interment
will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of
Mangum.
