Wanda Oleta Bowen, age 87, of Mangum, passed away Sunday morning,
Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Grace Living Center.
Wanda was born in Roff, Oklahoma, on February 24, 1926, to Erastis
and Ila Mae (Melson) Shaw. On November 2, 1940, she married Verney
Lee Gifford and they spent 34 wonderful years together before his
death in December of 1974. Wanda obtained her LPN license in 1967
and worked at Mangum City Hospital and Grace Living Center of
Mangum. In 1983, she married Elmus Bowen, who preceded her in death
in 1999. In her free time, Wanda enjoyed fishing, dancing, gardening
and spending time with friends and family. Wanda was known for being
a very kind and compassionate person and will be greatly missed by
all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter,
Janice; one son, Ronnie; one grandson, James Gifford; four brothers,
Hubert Shaw, Clyd Shaw, Doyle Shaw and Roy Shaw and one sister
Gladys Gifford, Wanda is survived by four children, Jimmy Gifford
and wife Pat of Houston, Texas, Brenda Rogers and husband Dale of
Mangum, Donnie Gifford and wife Lee of Sulfur Springs, Texas, Kathy
Stehr and husband Greg of Willow; seventeen grandchildren; thirty
six great grandchildren and one expected in September; twelve
great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Carter of Odessa, Texas
and Rena Fryman of Elk City; one stepson, Ron Bowen and wife Jan of
San Jose, California along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Wanda Oleta Bowen will be at 1:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Mangum with
Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating and under the direction of Greer
Funeral Home of Mangum.
