Daniel Leon Atchley, age 42, of Mangum, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 18, 2011.
Danny was born on October 11, 1968, in Mangum, Oklahoma to Leon Evan Atchley and Norma (Crump) Atchley. Living a short time in Mangum, Danny graduated from Granite High School in 1986. After high school, Danny attended Western Oklahoma State College, at Altus, received his bachelor’s degree from Mid America Bible College and his master’s degree in sports science and nutrition from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. For a short time he worked for C. R. Industries in Hobart and as a mechanic in Granite. In 1994, Danny began a career with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as a correctional officer and resigned as a Unit Manager in 2008, to become the full-time pastor of Grace Christian Fellowship Church, in Mangum, where he began his part-time ministry in November 2004. On April 24, 1998, he married Danica Gamez, the love of his life, and they spent then next thirteen short years together before his untimely death. Danny was also a veteran of the Oklahoma National Guard. In his spare time he enjoyed weightlifting, running and working on sermons.
Preceded in death by his father and a brother, Michael Milligan, he is survived by his wife, Danica, of the home; his mother and step-father, Norma and Gearld Gates of Granite; four children, Brooke Brown of Oklahoma City, Gage Atchley, Noel Atchley and Jessi Atchley of Mangum; one sister, Tammy Martin of Mangum; three brothers, Rick Milligan of Mangum, David Milligan of Starke, Florida and Scott Milligan of Dallas, Texas; one granddaughter, Isabella Brown of Oklahoma City; mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Glenda Gamez of Pensacola, Florida and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Danny Atchely will be at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Mangum High School Auditorium with Reggie Dungan, Darrell Coffman and Dustin Lively officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
