Lillie Vinita Inks went home to be with Jesus and family on
May 16, 2016, at the age of 91.
She was born on January 19, 1925, in Reed, OK. Her parents were James (Jim)
White and Lillie Dee Sampson. She was the youngest of six children born to Jim
and Dee: Floyd, West, Pearlyn, O’dell, Leonard, and Vinita.
Vinita married Elgie Louis Inks from Sandsprings, Oklahoma, on July 7, 1943.
They were blessed with three children, Gaylord, Beverlie, and Brenda.
Vinita was very talented in music. She wrote a few unpublished songs and was
known for her singing, guitar playing, and yodeling. She was also an
accomplished seamstress who styled most of her own wardrobe when younger as well
as her children’s. She had produced some beautiful crocheted items as well as
many lovely quilts.
She had worked as an editor to the Beacon Newspaper in Wichita, Kansas,
Secretary to the Chamber of Commerce in Sayre, Oklahoma, and worked at the
Bratton Drug Store in Mangum. She also served her community in many more ways.
She will be missed by so many but it is comforting to know that she is not only
in Heaven with our earthly Father, but also with our Heavenly Father.
Her parents, brothers and sister, husband and one grandchild (Gayla Ann
Jackson), all preceded her in death. She is survived by her children: Gaylord &
Jean Inks, Beverlie & David Newby, and Brenda Lehrman; by her grandchildren:
Tammy and Scott Veroneau, Kelli and Greg Carothers, Brandon and Melissa Lehrman,
Mistie and Kevin Ramos, Louis and Gabe Heck, Chad Lehrman, and Ginger Inks. Her
g-grandchildren are Jake & Jayci Carothers, Kaytelyn, Skylar, Remington, & Laney
Lehrman, Nathaniel & Micah Veroneau, Cole McClendon, Dusty Inks, Alisha & Jason
Jackson. She had 2 g-g-grandchildren.
She will be buried at the Reed Cemetery in Reed, Oklahoma, next to her husband
in a private family ceremony conducted by Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family invites you to a visitation at Greer Funeral Home, in Mangum, on
Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.
