Mary Lela (Tudie) Boyd, age 79, of Mangum, passed away Friday,
November 19, 2010, at her residence.
Tudie was born on July 31, 1931, at Reed, Oklahoma to Walter Luther
and Georgie Irene (Walkup) McAlister. Attending school at Reed, she
married Robert E. “Gene” Boyd on September 20, 1948, in Wellington,
Texas, and they moved to Centralvue where they farmed. In 1958, the
family home burned and they moved to Mangum where she lived until
her death. While living at Reed, she was a switchboard operator and
waitress. After moving to Mangum she refinished furniture for Pete
Stover and later taught lessons about refinishing furniture at the
community center. Tudie also served as a nurse’s aide and after Gene
became ill and began dialysis, she became a dialysis technician in
order to care for him. She later worked at Teen Town and Greer
Funeral Home until her health began to fail. Working in the yard,
gardening, painting and doing crafts were some of her hobbies.
Preceded in death by her parents, three infant sons, her husband,
and two sisters, Vada McAlister and Wanda Jones.
She is survived by
three children, Donna Heardt and husband Ben of Marlow, Robert Boyd
and wife Mona of Duke and Debbie Brooke and husband Mark of
Bartlesville; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three
brothers, John B. McAlister of Lawton, Mike McAlister of Indiahoma
and Pat McAlister of Frederick; one sister, Patricia Ferguson of
Mangum and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Tudie Boyd will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday,
November 23, 2010, at the Reed Cemetery with Chaplin Erin Martinez
officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home
of Mangum.
