January 28, 1954 - March 7, 2019

Steve J. McClung of Tulsa, Oklahoma died Thursday morning, March 7, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 65 years.

Steve was born on January 28, 1954 in Abilene, Texas, to Daniel C. and Dorothy J. (Toner) McClung. He grew up in Abilene and Okmulgee, Oklahoma, while his father was an oil & gas geologist. The family moved to Norman, Oklahoma, while Dan went to the University of Oklahoma Law School, then moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, in 1966, where Steve started 7th grade at Blackwell Junior High.

Steve graduated from Blackwell High School with the Class of 1972. While in school, he was a trumpet player in the Blackwell Maroon Band. Fellow band members will remember his legendary trumpet solo in the concert piece “Scheherazade”, where the BHS Band received high honors at State Contest. His silver trumpet was passed down through the children of several friends.

Steve attended Oklahoma State University, earning a B.S. in Accounting in 1976. He worked in Muskogee and Tulsa before starting his own CPA Firm, Steve McClung CPA PC in Tulsa, which he operated for 41 years until his death.

When not at work, Steve enjoyed going to the lake with friends, riding his BMW motorcycle all across the United States and OSU sports. Steve was known for his dry sense of humor and his lifelong friendships. In recent years, he was a caring and dedicated son to his elderly parents.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his older brother, Michael J (Mike) McClung of Braman, Oklahoma.

Honorary pall bearers are Lee Dester, Steve Percefull, Mike Loftis, Chris Graves, Ted Reusser, Allen Brown and Nick Graves.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14th in the Wakita Cemetery south of Wakita, Oklahoma, with Rev. Cap McIlnay of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial has been established in Steve’s honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in care of Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 120 W Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
