A private graveside service for Dorothy J. Toner McClung, 86, of Blackwell, will be in Wakita Cemetery, Wakita. Visitation will be all day today and until noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Roberts and Son Funeral Home, Blackwell.

She was born Dec. 26, 1921, on a farm near Manchester to Clare L. and Ethel Connery Toner and died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at her home in Blackwell.

She attended Fairview and Gore rural schools, graduating from Wakita High School in 1939. She then attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.

During World War II she worked in the drafting department at North American Aviation in Kansas City. While in Kansas, she attended Kansas City Art Institute and in 1950 received a bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Oklahoma. She was an artist, signing her paintings “D.J. Toner.”

She taught school in Braman and Blackwell for 17 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Blackwell where she taught Sunday school for 30 years as well as a Bible study class.

She married Daniel C. McClung Dec. 26, 1946.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel; two sons, Mike McClung of Braman and Steve McClung of Tulsa; one sister, Lois Rust of Alva; and one brother, Edwin Toner of rural Manchester.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631 to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Daniel Coleman McClung of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning, May 21, 2017, at his home at the age of 93 years.

Daniel Coleman McClung was born on March 9, 1924, in Butler, Oklahoma, to Carl and Nettie (Coleman) McClung. He graduated from Pie Flat High School in 1942. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served four years, including service in the South Pacific War Theater. He married Dorothy J. Toner on December 26, 1946, and they were married for sixty-one years. To this marriage were born Michael J. McClung and Steven J. McClung. Dan graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in Geology in 1950 and for the next thirteen years he worked as a geologist in the oilfields of Oklahoma and Texas. At the age of 39 he enrolled in the University of Oklahoma School of Law and in 1966 established a law practice in Blackwell. While in Blackwell he served as Municipal Judge and for eight years served on the Kay County Excise and Equalization Board. He also served for nine years on the boards of the Blackwell General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Regional Hospital. He was selected Blackwell’s Citizen of the Year in 1993 and was active in various community and civic projects.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael J. McClung of Braman, Oklahoma, and Steven J. McClung of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a sister, Gerry Green of Wakita, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his wife on April 20, 2008; his parents; a brother, Elwood McClung; and five sisters, Dorothy Deputy, Lois Thomason, Jewel Bates, Bonnie Stout and Ruby Elliott.

At his request cremation will be effected and no services are planned. Burial will take place in the Wakita Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimers Research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
