Lorene Raye Johnson was born March 16, 1928, to Harry B. and Daisy M. Miller. She died September 16, 2022, at the Community Health Center in Wakita.
Lorene grew up on the farm with her brother Howard and sister Thoran. She attended Gore School and, after graduation, attended Wichita Business College. She returned to Wakita, working many years as the office nurse for R.W. Choice, until his retirement. When the Community Health Center opened, she served as the Clinic receptionist until the early 1980's.
On August 1, 1948, she married Dean D. Johnson, and they made their home northwest of Wakita. Dean and Lorene had three children: Rodney, Cindy, and Bryan. Even though she worked outside the home, she was there at ball games, style shows, gym shows, music lessons, stock shows, band concerts, and many other activities of her children. Lorene was a member of the Wakita United Methodist Church, active in Sunday School, Bible Study, UMW, and Youth. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Lorene was known as a petite lady with style, grace, and an unwavering faith in God. She had a smile for everyone and met life's challenges with patience and humor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her son, Bryan; her parents; and siblings.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Johnson (Ramona), and daughter, Cindy McCray (Butch), and their families.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday September 20, 2022, at the Wakita Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford. There will be a time of viewing on Monday, September 19, 2022, 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
