Wakita Cemetery


A memorial service for Lawanda Marie Horning, 64, of Medford will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Medford. The Rev. Bobby Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Wakita Cemetery, Wakita. Arrangements are by Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.

She was born May 9, 1941, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Leslie Samuel and Alma Marie Froese Thomas and died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at her home in Medford.

She graduated from Medford High School in 1959. She graduated from Ponca City Vo-tech’s licensed practical nursing program in 1982.

She married Charles Byron “Butch” Horning Feb. 1, 1983, in Las Vegas. They made their home in Grant County. They also lived in Enid for nine years.

She worked at Springs Family Practice as Dr. John Ronck’s nurse for nine years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Wakita.

Surviving are her husband, Butch of the home; one daughter, Kelly Russell of Medford; one son, Troy Albright of Enid; her father, Leslie Thomas of Medford; one stepdaughter, Carla Cink of Sallisaw; three stepsons, Ron Horning of Carrier, Jim Horning of Kremlin, and Gary Horning of Wichita, Kan; one sister, Linda Wallace of Burden, Kan.; two brothers, Clifford Thomas of Plains, Kan., and Jerry Thomas of Colby, Kan.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Baptist Church, Medford, or Hospice Circle of Love.
