Wakita Cemetery



Wakita – Ralph "Pappy" Horning, 74, a lifelong resident of the Wakita community, died Monday evening in an Enid hospital after a long illness.

He was born May 8, 1905, in Wakita and was engaged in farming until his retirement.

Horning and Fern Coates were married July 14, 1926, in Medford. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Horning is survived by his wife Fern of the home; a son, Butch Horning; a daughter, Donna Ransom; three brothers, Louis Horning, Edward Horning and Chuck Horning, all of Wakita; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Smith, also of Wakita, and Mrs. Bess Garren, Bakersfield, California; eight grandchildren and four great – grandchildren. Another brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Horning will be at 2 PM Thursday in the Wakita Christian Church with the Rev. Roger Stearns officiating. Horning will be buried in the Wakita Cemetery.

The Morrison Funeral Service of Wakita is in charge of arrangements.

Horning's family has suggested that those who wish make contributions to the Wakita Christian Church in Horning's memory or to the charity of their choice.
