WAKITA — Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wakita Christian Church for Deanie Gibbons. Jeff Enabnit will officiate. Burial will follow in Wakita Cemetery.
Leo Dean “Deanie” Gibbons was born in Anthony, Kansas, October 6, 1928, to Charles C. and Wilda Garrett Horning and died September 7, 2012, at Wakita Community Health Center nursing home.
She lived her entire life in the Wakita area, attending grade school at Fairview school near Sand Creek and graduating from Wakita High School in 1946 as salutatorian.
She married Meigs E. “Ox” Gibbons Jr. December 31, 1946. They would have celebrated their 66th anniversary in December.
She worked 10 years for an insurance agency in Wakita and 18 years for Wakita Community Health Center, retiring as assistant administrator in 1988.
She was a member of Wakita Christian Church and played the piano for the church for many years as well as playing at CHC nursing home. She taught Sunday school for numerous years. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her kids and grandkids, including making her daughter’s wedding dress. She and Ox volunteered for many activities in Wakita.
Surviving are her husband, Meigs of Wakita; a son, Chris and wife Diana of Evergreen, Colo.; daughter, Peggy and husband Gary Feist of Wakita, Okla.; four grandchildren, James Gibbons of Evergreen, Colo., Sam and Jessy Gibbons of Littleton, Colo., Meg Feist of Boston, Mass., and Luke Feist of Willingboro, N.J.; and one great granddaughter, Sasha Gibbons of Littleton, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Jean Sassaman and Ruth Bogil.
A request is being made by the family for donations in Deanie’s memory to Wakita Community Health Center.
