Wakita Cemetery


ENID, Okla. — Roy L. Cowherd was born Aug. 15, 1919, near Gore, Grant County, Okla., to Rolley and Edna A. Rickabaugh Cowherd and passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Community Health Center in Wakita, Okla.

Roy graduated from Gore High School.

He joined the Navy Dec. 27, 1941, in Oklahoma City, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 15, 1945, in Shoemaker, Calif.

Roy married Marjorie Williams on Jan. 10, 1945, in Norfolk, Va.

They moved to the farm south of Wakita when Roy was dismissed from the Navy, and then, when Roy retired from farming, they moved into the town of Wakita, where Roy was a member of Wakita Christian Church and past member of Wakita Town Board.

Roy is survived by his son, Steve Cowherd and wife Denise of Medford, Okla.; grandsons, Steve Cowherd and wife Alicia of Enid, Okla., and Jason Cowherd and fiancee Andrea Schmitz of Ponca City, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Koby, Hunter, Laken, Ella and Tegan Cowherd; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Carl and Russell Cowherd; sisters, Lois Bullis and Doris Byers; and infant brother, Louis.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at First Christian Church, Wakita, Okla. Revs. Jeff Enabnit and Bob Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Wakita Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, Okla.

Memorials may be made to Community Health Center or First Christian Church, Wakita, Okla.
