Rosary for Joe Solorio, 82, of Blackwell, will be 7 p.m. today in the Roberts and Son Funeral Chapel in Blackwell. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009 in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Blackwell with Rev. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Medford. Military rites will be performed by the Blackwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Medford to Frank and Esther Solorio Sr. and died July 7, 2009 in Wichita, Kan.
He grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945, serving during World War II. He married Lucy Marie Martin July 5, 1947 in Medford, and they settled in Medford, where he continued working for the railroad. In 1975, they moved to Blackwell, where they made their home. He retired as a section foreman for Santa Fe Railroad in 1985. Through the years, he played with numerous bands including the Fabulous Royals and Ace Diamonds. He played on occasion with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Angeline Solorio and Rose Ann Solorio, both of Wichita; two sons, Joe Solorio of Medford and John Solorio of Ponca City; a sister, Mary Krehbiel of Enid; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy, four brothers and two sisters.
