March 25, 1940 - May 16, 2018 Joe Melvin Zeman of Nardin, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 78 years.
Joe Melvin Zeman was born on March 25, 1940, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Frank Leo and Rose Lee (Biggs) Zeman. He attended rural Grant County schools before graduating from Medford High School in 1958. He furthered his education by attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater earning a bachelors degree in agricultural economics. Following his education he began a farming career that included farms in both Grant and Kay Counties. He married Linda Sue Pyritz in 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they settled in Blackwell before moving to a farm southeast of Nardin. Joe drove a bus for the Blackwell Public Schools for many years. He attended the Nardin Methodist Church and enjoyed playing the organ and the accordion. Other interests include working jigsaw puzzles and collecting comic books. His passion was buying and selling farms.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Zeman of Nardin; two sons, Jason Maness of Blackwell and Michael Maness of Nardin; a daughter, Shannon Erickson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Olga Kretchmar of Wakita and Vivian Williams of Sherwood, Oregon; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and Marvin Zeman.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 22nd, in the Rosemound Cemetery in Medford with Rev. Matt Smith officiating.
The grandchildren of Joe Zeman will serve as honorary casketbearers.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Blackwell Public School Foundation in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
