July 6, 1928 - December 11, 2019

Hubert (Wimpy) Klein was born July 6, 1928, in Peabody Kansas, to Jacob and Martha Klein. On September 24, 1950, he married Florence Caroline Kelly. They were married for 69 years.

After an initial tour in the Navy, where he became an accomplished cook, Wimpy settled down in Medford, Oklahoma, and worked for the Medford Rock Island Depot until he retired in 1980. After retirement, he farmed wheat with Russell Collins for years.

Wimpy loved fishing with Delvin Aebi and spent many summers with him fishing Salt Plains, Lake Texhoma, Kaw Lake and many more throughout Oklahoma.

Wimpy was an excellent woodworker and liked building cabinets and shelves for his family.

Wimpy gained his love of cooking while in the service, and he continued that enjoyment with his great-granddaughter Madilyn when they would bake cookies together. He loved spending time with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their many visits. Wimpy was always trying out recipes and using his son Mark as his official taster.

Wimpy was a fiercely devoted husband and father. His main concern was for his beloved wife Florence, whom he lived with at the Wakita Community Health Center the last few months of his life. He never failed to make sure she was taken care of and was eating and drinking. He had the same care for his children. Mark and his dad mowed lawns in Medford year after year. Last summer Wimpy was still riding the lawnmower. and he loved every minute he spent with his son. Wimpy and daughter Cynthia spent many nights in the barn dancing, watching the stars and sitting by the fire.

Wimpy is survived by his wife Florence; two sisters, Josephine Landes and Thelma Layton; daughter Cynthia Zajack and husband Tom; son Mark Allen Klein. Wimpy has three grandchildren, Alicia Schultz and husband Matthew, Rachel Mathews and husband Skyler, and Austin Conrady. There are five great-grandchildren, Madilyn Schultz, Elizabeth Conrady, Ethan Conrady, Taylor Mathews, Kimber Mathews.

Wimpy was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Klein; two sisters, Geraldine Schmidt and Ruby Friesen; and one great-grandson, Joshua Matthews.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, OK, with Rev. Craig VanDeburgh officiating. Memorials may made to Community Health Center, Wakita, OK. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK.
