Philip Dean Funderburk of Medford, Okla., died Monday evening, Jan. 13, 2014, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, Okla., at the age of 63 years.

Philip Dean Funderburk was born Sept. 6, 1950, in Norman, Okla., to Donald D. and Auwilda I. (Green) Funderburk.

As a young boy, he moved with his family to Moore, Okla., where he attended elementary school before moving to Caldwell, Kan., for a year. They then moved to Medford, where he graduated from Medford High School in 1968. He furthered his education by attending Central State University in Edmond, where he played on the Broncho football team. He married Karen Sue Stuck on Oct. 13, 1970, in Tulsa, Okla., and they settled in Oklahoma City for a year. In 1972, they returned to Medford, where he began working for Don’s Distributing Co., selling farm equipment. In 1986, Phil became president of the company and continued to operate the business until his retirement in 2010.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell. He enjoyed fishing and various athletics, especially coaching baseball and playing softball.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Funderburk of Medford; three sons, Donald Dean Funderburk II of Liberty, Mo., Jack Andrew Funderburk of Eldon, Mo., and the Rev. Joseph Alan Funderburk of Overland Park, Kan.; his mother, Auwilda I. Funderburk of Medford; three sisters, Rebecca Ann Damm of San Antonio, Texas, Donita A. Hagerman of Ardmore, Okla., and Sharla Dawn Ramirez of San Antonio, Texas; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Blackwell, with the Rev. Matt Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford.

Casketbearers will be Nicholas Funderburk, Zachary Funderburk, the Rev. Joseph Funderburk, Jack Funderburk and Donald Funderburk. Phil’s Sunday school class at Immanuel Baptist Church will serve as honorary casketbearers.

A memorial has been established in his honor with Immanuel Baptist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
