William L. “Bill” Brock died peacefully on September 14, 2015, at home in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born August 9, 1936 in Kiersey/Durant, Oklahoma to LeRoy and Ella (Smith) Brock. Bill graduated from Durant High School in 1954, where he participated in FFA, the Eastern A&M livestock judging team, All-State Band, and National Honor Society.
Bill attended Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) receiving a B.S. in Animal Husbandry in 1958. While at OSU, he was a member of the International Championship Livestock Judging Team, was very active in collegiate FFA and received the FFA American Farmer Award. He was also active in two scholastic societies and other organizations. He completed the coursework for a Master of Science degree in Animal Nutrition in 1959 but was drafted into the Army before his research project could be submitted. While at OSU, Bill met Janell Webster and they were married in Medford, Oklahoma on January 24, 1959. Bill’s professional career included working at Mauer-Neuer Packing Company in Arkansas City, Kansas as Federal-grader assistant and later as Mauer-Neuer Feedlot-Cattle Manager 1960-1962. From 1962-1964 he was employed as Cattle Manager at Pratt County Feed Yards in Pratt, Kansas.
In the fall of 1964 Bill entered the University Of Oklahoma School of Law. From 1964-1969 he worked part-time as legislative assistant for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture. He continued in private practice in Norman, OK from 1967-1991 when he was forced to retire as the result of medical disability. Active in social, sports, and church groups, he served on the Norman Civic Improvement Council, helped establish the Norman Tennis League, was a charter member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and later active in various capacities at Wildwood Community Church. He was a long-time member of Sooner Lion’s Club, the Cleveland County Republican Party, Christian Legal Society, and served as Assistant Teaching Leader for Bible Study Fellowship in Norman. An avid tennis player, Bill’s hobbies also included his auction company, Brock Auctioneers, boating, and traveling.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janell; three daughters and their husbands, seventeen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren: Jana (Curt, M.D.) Frazier of Springfield, MO; their children, Kathryn (Stephen) Long and their children Maria and William of Notre Dame, Indiana; Meredith, James, Brock, Elizabeth, Jackson, Julianna, Cameron, Natalie, and Noelle Frazier of Springfield, MO; Julia (David) Auer and their children; Ellen, John, and Emily Auer of Tulsa, OK; Joy (Josh) Link and their children; Carter, Audrey, Asher, & Caroline Link of Tulsa, OK. His sisters, Pauline Easley of Tahlequah, OK and Ruby Graff of Memphis, TN also survive him, as well as three nephews and two nieces and numerous family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Edwin Brock), and two infant grandsons, William David Auer and Griffin Scot Frazier.
A private burial service was at noon on Tuesday, September 15, at Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, OK.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Havenbrook Chapel, Norman, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Loving Care Hospice of Noble, OK, Samaritan’s Purse Refugee Fund, or the charity of your choice.
