Funeral services for Lois Maude Sladek, 91, Cedar Vale, Kansas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 in the Floyd & Ann Holman Chapel, Medford, with (Minister) officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Richland Cemetery, North of Medford, under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.

Lois was born on August 14, 1926 in Wakita, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alvin Dumont and Lolita Holden Shafer, and passed away peacefully on September 1, 2017 at her residence. She was raised on the family farm in Wakita, and graduated from Wakita High School with the class of 1944. Lois attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva where she studied for her teaching credentials. She married Wesley Joseph Sladek on June 2, 1948 in Wakita. He preceded her in passing on July 28, 2009.

Lois worked for a time as a teaching student but fulfilled her love as a farmer’s wife. She also worked twenty years at the Medford Nursing Home.

Survivors include Daughter, Carol Sladek of the residence, close friend, Cynthia DeAnn Stout of the residence; grandchildren, Zachary Sladek, Tyler Sladek, and Taylor Castro; great-granddaughter, Natalie Sladek.

The family has selected Richland Cemetery as appropriate for memorial donations.

Richland Cemetery


The funeral service for Wesley J. Sladek, 90, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Medford, will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at Renfrow United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sandy Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow in Richland Cemetery, north of Medford. Military honors will be conducted by the Army. Arrangements are by Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.

He was born July 11, 1918, near Renfrow to Joseph and Christina Chalupnik Sladek and died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Veterans Transitional Hospital, Wichita. He graduated from Medford High School in 1935. He served in the Army during World War II in Africa and Italy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Lois Shafer June 2, 1948, in Wakita. They lived and farmed in Grant County until retiring and moving to Wichita in 1998.

Surviving are his wife, Lois; one daughter, Carol Sladek of Wichita; one son, David Sladek of Wichita; one sister, Anna Mae Patton of Caldwell, Kan.; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one infant brother.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home, P.O. Box 280, Medford, OK 73759, to Richland Cemetery or Renfrow United Methodist Church.
